The west coast region of New Zealand is beautiful. Its wild and rugged beauty  reminded me so much of coastal California along highway 101. From Wellington, we went to the west coast using the interisland  ferry service in Picton. Along the coast; we stopped for an hour or so in Punakaiki to enjoy the beauty of the Pancake Rocks and Blowholes .

Some of the attractions that I love in Shantytown include a train ride and village exploration.

In the west Coast, I’ve seen a mix of pine trees, palm trees, moss, lichen and wild flowers within a space of 10ft. The unfurling fern is a Maori symbol of new life and fertility.

Hokitika is a cool little town in the west coast of South island. It was nice to walk along the beach. The town centre boasts of cafes, restaurants, and souvenir shops.
